The historic architectural complex of the Castle Quarter, surrounded by the castle walls, consists of the former Royal Palace and the adjacent, historic civic quarter.  The Church of Our Lady, more commonly known as Matthias Church, is in the centre of the Castle Quarter: it was the coronation site for several Hungarian kings, and was reconstructed in neo-Gothic style at end of the 19th century according to the plans of Frigyes Schulek.  The Fishermen’s Bastion, built in a neo-Romanesque style on the ruins of the castle walls between 1895 and 1902, was also designed by him.  The Buda Castle is one of the most important cultural centres of the country: its buildings house the Budapest History Museum, the National Széchenyi Library and the Hungarian National Gallery.

On the opposite bank of the river Danube, there is the world-renowned and magnificent Parliament building, and also Andrássy Avenue, one of the most remarkable and complex achievements of urban development in the second half of the 19th century: today it is an easy-to-access location of high fashion stores and the Opera House is also here.

If you love shopping or you are looking for some entertainment, Mammut 1 and Mammut 2 shopping centres are within a short, easy walk, with many restaurants, cinemas and service providers.

In addition to the historic sites, there are many high quality restaurants near the Bastion Residence, and hardly a week goes by without a gastronomy or cultural festival in the Castle Garden Bazaar and in the surrounding area.

In the district there are three kindergartens (Vízivárosi Óvoda, Brunszvik Teréz Óvoda, Naphegyi óvoda), three elementary schools (Batthyány Lajos Általános Iskola, Budavári Általános Iskola, Lisznyai Utcai Általános Iskola), four secondary grammar schools (Kosztolányi Dezső Gimnázium, Szilágyi Erzsébet Gimnázium, Toldy Ferenc Gimnázium, Petőfi Sándor Gimnázium), a music school (Farkas Ferenc Zeneiskola), and also a centre for educational consultancy and a speech therapy institution. Several church-run educational institutions (Budapesti Egyetemi Katolikus Gimnázium, Szent Gellért Katolikus Általános Iskola és Gimnázium) can be reached from here with a short ride.
